An Afternoon Affair on Lake Geneva

I know I say this every time I design wedding invitations but this set is really one of my favorites. The couple, who will be married this summer on Lake Geneva, decided they wanted to communicate to their guests the importance of the lake. They achieved this by adding hand drawn sketches of the Riviera building and the boat that their cocktail hour will be held. I’m excited to photograph these professionally and add the other design elements that I contributed later this summer. Check back to see their creative and beautiful escort card idea!

I’m not a banker but I have to say…I was overly excited when I logged into my online Huntington account and saw their new site design (pictured above)! As a designer, it wasn’t fun signing into their old site everyday. I thought I would include a screenshot of what their site USED to look like (pictured below) just so you can see the difference. Exciting, right? Just agree with me.

I had a wonderful time with family and friends this weekend at our friends’ wedding. Below are a handful of links to start off your work week!

- I’m planning on making this for dinner soon.

- Love this design. Peace Corps at 50 identity.

- These wedding invites are great. I’ve drawn an illustration the bride and groom before and it’s nerve racking!

- My upcoming freelance work will be influenced by this site and this site. Two very different projects!

Now that it’s all said and done.

Well, all of my orders are sent out and I feel accomplished in the fact that I had my first experience in paper goods. I realize now that I will always love print design more than anything designed for web and I’m okay with that. There’s something really great about holding what you created in your own hands. All-in-all it was fun and the cards that I still have in stock are already running low so I’m having a difficult time figuring out how many more to get printed. Feel free to leave your advice or if you’re still interested in buying a set for Mother’s Day, it’s possible that I can have then on her doorstep by Saturday!

*Pardon my horrid photography, all I have is my iPhone!

Stationary!

This is my new line of stationary. I’ve realized how much I’ve evolved throughout the past two years and I feel these first four cards really communicate my style.

Anyways, a set of these four cards will be given away for FREE this upcoming Monday (April 26, 2010) so if you leave a comment below, I’ll enter all the names into the drawing and choose a random fan! You can also enter by going to my Facebook page and leaving a comment on the giveaway status.

Sets of 4, 6, and 8 cards will be available to purchase in my Etsy shop Monday as well. Mother’s Day is coming up and the sets would make a wonderful gift.

It’s my first day back after a 7-day Twitter hiatus and I’m feeling refreshed and accomplished. Last week I finished the piece above for a past client. King Kong meets Elvis. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Here are some links to start off your week:

I’m currently working with five engaged couples to create their perfect wedding invitation set. I stumbled across these the other day and loved the size and richness of the colors. When you design wedding invitations, it’s always such a treat to work with a bride who picks such snazzy colors.

These are on my birthday wish list. Mark your calendars, people. May 9th!

I want this clock so that I can give it to my sister. It reminds me of her.

Two of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen. Seriously. Watch them BOTH.

A great article by Seth Godin. I couldn’t agree with him more.

I am stalking as well. It also inspired me to buy a huge canvas and paint again.

I’m a new fan of Alex Kopps. Found here.

Meet : J.M. Scott

This week’s MEET features J.M. Scott, a 30-year old graphic designer from Indianapolis who designs full-time for the Public Relations Department for the State of Indiana. This artist’s simple answers and wonderful illustration work speaks for itself! Enjoy!

Q1. At what point in your life did you know you’d be an artist? While in high school I was interning as a microbiologist (through my chemistry class) and I got to create my poster on a Mac using Corel Draw. There was something about illustrating petri dishes on the computer that inspired me.

Q2. Do you have another talents, passions, or hobbies? I really love screen printing. I work mostly on different paper. I’m not really into the fabrics.

Q3. Who has been the most encouraging person in your life? My mother.

Q4. What inspires you? Quotes. I love to take quotes and create illustrations. Photojournalism, like the photos found on Boston.com’s “The Big Picture.”

Q5. What medium still intimidates you? Watercolors. I’ve tried it but I still don’t have the hang of it.

Q6. What artistic trend do you dislike? I have trouble getting into a lot of abstract art but I love Jackson Pollock.

Q7. What has been you favorite piece of someone else’s art up until this point in your life? Ralph Steadman’s Animal Farm illustrations.

Q8. Do you think you have a specific style? What is that style and do you see yourself evolving out of that anytime soon? I’m not sure of my style right now or where I want it to go.

an evolution

I have been creating things for a long time. Looking back now, I see that I created very different things compared to what I create now. It’s interesting to see what was once your style. Are you evolving or are you playing it safe?

Pieces created in 2005. Oil and watercolor paintings.
