Intervention and The Battleship Potemkin

I recently watched Arcade Fire’s “Intervention” music video and realized that I had never seen it before. It is made up entirely of Sergei Eisenstein’s iconic 1925 film, “Battleship Potemkin.” The film presents a dramatized version of the mutiny that occurred in 1905 when the crew of the Russian battleship Potemkin rebelled against their officers of the Tsarist regime. The Battleship Potemkin has been called one of the most influential propaganda films of all time, and was named the greatest film of all time at the Brussels World’s Fair in 1958 (information found on Wikipedia). The video is heartbreaking to watch. Has anyone seen the entire film?

Below is an image of one of the film’s posters. Beautiful.

Monday Link Love

Happy Monday! Not too many links this week but enjoy these because they’re fab:

- I love these designs for the Museum of Unnatural History found via Pitch Design Union.

- Atlantic Treefox has re-opened their Etsy shop and I realllllly want one of her posters.

- Fooducate is a new iPhone app that gives you a bit more information about the food that you buy. Found via SwissMiss.

- Beautiful work by Áron Jancsó found over on Grain Edit.

- The Consult‘s work for Stack Architects is gorgeous. Found over on AisleOne.

- I love this idea over on A Desert Fete. She used one of her instax and created wonderful wall art. I’m considering the same idea with a photo like the one above. Not exactly THAT one but something like it.

Daily Occurrences

Too many photos? I don’t know the etiquette of photo posting but there you have it. This pretty much sums up the past week. I went into a Half Priced Books for the first time in my entire life. I wish I had a separate bank account strictly for books and records (and maybe a few VHS tapes?) I had to visit Dirty Franks to try their Franksgiving dog (mashed potatoes and stuffing. hells yes). A new Jeni’s opened about 5 minutes from our house. It’s gorgeous inside and they have a new seasonal flavor called, “Sweet Potatoes with Toasted Marshmallows!!!!” (I added the exclamation marks.)

I’ve been sketching out our Christmas card design for this year. A few of us on Twitter are starting a local Christmas card mailing list and I’m so excited. I also have been enjoying a few dance parties ever since Girl Talk’s All Day came out last week. I think I hurt my shoulder while dancing but it’s totally worth it. And Desh has been as cute as ever. There’s my update. What have you been up to? If you’re a regular reader of my bloggity blog, leave a comment so I can say hi or follow YOUR blog.

The Wilderness Downtown

Have you heard of The Wilderness Downtown? Visit the site using Google Chrome and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. It’s an interactive film created by Chris Milk (the website also says that it is a Chrome experiment and made with some friends at Google). You enter in the address of the home you grew up in and it takes you on a visual journey while listening to Arcade Fire’s “We Used to Wait.” After it’s finished, you can write a virtual postcard. Mine is pictured below. Built in HTML, it’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen in awhile. Thanks to a co-worker for showing me!

It’s your identity.

Some of my favorite identities that I’ve recently come across. The top is a self initiated identity for United Printing of Chicago by Woods & Weather. The second is The Chop Shop designed by PTARMAK. The third is work for Uncle Pear by Uncle Pear. Love love love!

I want a terrarium!

I have this childish fascination with terrariums. So much that I can hardly spell the word terrarium. The Brick House just recently posted about DIY terrarium (photo below).

And then I stumbled across a listing on Etsy (pictured below). I love both styles. Decisions, decisions.

Do you own a terrarium? Did you buy a kit or make it yourself? Are they as magical as they seem?

Monday Link Love – The Visual Edition

Sometimes when I just see a list of links, I’m not as inclined to click on them! So here are your visuals, my lovelies.

I love this daybed. I’m not sure if I would necessarily love sleeping on it but I’d love to look at it. In my home. Found here. Buy it here.

The beautiful photo set above by Mr. and Mrs. Globetrot. Amazing and they’re adorable. Found here.

The piece above was created by Aaron McLaughlin. Found here.

Brian’s photos above (from The Blue Hour) made me want to go back to Edinburgh!
