Do you ever feel like you go through growing pains? Not physically – but just in your life? I’ve felt like that lately. I’ve been trying to shed some negativity that has plagued me my whole life. I know that most of it comes from insecurity but I don’t think that’s really an excuse. Nothing dramatic. Just embracing myself and loving others. Less jealously. More rooting and cheering.
In effort to keep it real around here, I thought I could share 10 truths about my life right now. Feel free to do the same below in the comment section.
- I’ve been going to be earlier lately. By 10:30pm I crave sleep but still feel way too tired in the morning. I think my body is adjusting to my non-nocturnal habits.
- I’ve also been trying to kick this sickness naturally. I don’t like taking antibiotics so it’s a slower process when you don’t pop pills.
- I’m trying a new weekly approach where I schedule all meetings, Skype sessions and phone calls for Tuesdays and Thursdays in hopes that I can actually spend 3 days/week designing and creating.
- I’m starting to get nervous about the holiday season. Business can slow down during these upcoming months and it’s a little scary since Adam and I work together independently.
- I really want an ONA camera bag. And the Canon 50mm 1.2. Refraining from buying both because of #4.
- I wear the same 3 outfits all the time. It’s easy, simple and I treat it like a uniform.
- Sometimes I freak out because I still can’t ever imagine being a parent. Almost all of my college friends have kids and being different can make you insecure.
- If I talk all day, my throat ends up hurting. And then I think, “C’mon Allie. Pull it together!” I can hear my piano teacher telling me to talk from my diaphragm and not my throat. Oye.
- I had to spell check the word diaphragm.
- I don’t monitor who unfollowed me on Twitter, Google Analytics or most of my Twitter feed anymore. I used to do all three. Twitter lists are my best friend.
What’s true about your life right now?

#7….omg #7….I FEEL YOU. Andrew and I also cannot even get our brains wrapped around the idea (we’ve been married 5 yrs next month), but living in a small town in Indiana, people think something is wrong with us. I feel you…there is just waaaaay too much I want to do before going down that road.
We’ve got plenty of time.

Adam and I have been married 4.5 so it sounds like we can totally relate!! Where in Indiana do you live? I don’t think I’ve ever know.
And you’re right, we do have plenty of time. But I went to the gyno last month and she basically made me feel like I’d soon be infertile!!

AHH!I know right?!?! My GP said the same thing to me?!?! What the heck?
We are in my hometown of Corydon, Indiana, which is about thirty minutes outside of Louisville, KY…thank god ;)
I’ve been loving your blog lately! Great content that is so relatable and TRUE. Just read your post on money–so great.

Aw thanks Gray! Gosh every time I see your name, I love it more. If I name my future daughter that – don’t be creeped out :)

I’m with you both on #7…praying for the desire for children and enjoying every moment I can with my sweet nephew!
What do you mean by twitter lists?
October 16, 2013
I create different lists and add people to them. So I have a blogger list, a friends list and a client list. Then I only read those lists and don’t have to sort through everything else in my main feed! It’s awesome!

#7 is a big deal for me too! I’m not sure whether I am able to put myself and my needs on a second place (I really need peace and quiet to live my life, but that’s over when you have a family). But I don’t want to wait because I’m scared and realise that I’m too late in about 10 years. Where is the pause button?

I totally totally relate, Iris! I’ve actually been very moved to adopt lately which almost felt like a bright light went off inside my head. I’m in no rush to have children but I know that when the time is right – we’ll figure out a way.

This. Yes. I had a great talk with a co-worker the other day. She and her husband adopted their only child as a newborn when she was 42…and that was in the early 90s!
There are a ton of options.

No. 3 is such a solid idea! I get so bogged down in the business of owning a creative business sometimes. I think I might give that a shot as well!
October 16, 2013
Let me know if you do! This week has been interesting so far but I hope to share about how it all goes later this month.

I started doing the going to bed at 10:30 thing too (I am actually a diagnosed insomniac on sleeping medication and trying to figure things out with that)…I did some searching and learned about what times specific body types need to wake up. My results told me 4:30am was my ideal waking up time. I was doubtful since waking up at 6 felt so hard (I thought it was just my medicine making me drowsy). But I’ve been trying it and waking up at 4:30 feels so easy for my body. I guess that’s when I’ve reached the end of a REM cycle? Maybe you should look at adjusting your wake time while you’re adjusting what time you’re going to bed?
October 16, 2013
Oh wow! That is so so interesting. Now I’m really interesting. Now I’m really curious and will keep you posted, Jess!
October 17, 2013
Yeah! Let me know what else you find as you search and how it goes!
October 17, 2013
I’m actually incredibly interested in this! Is there a link somewhere to figure out what body type I am?!

DISCLAIMER: I don’t know how much (if any of this) is actually true. but the sleeping part has been true for me. I started waking at 4:30 a week ago and have had no problems waking up when my alarm goes off. I haven’t felt like I’ve had to “pull” myself out of sleep

Thank you!

I had a feeling it was an aryurvedic thing! That’s really interesting. Thank you!

Oh! I have the Bowery bag from ONA and love it! Not sure how big of a bag you need, but I can fit two cameras in mine, which is perfect for my indecisiveness over film/digital.
And going to bed early is always a win!
October 16, 2013
Ah that sounds amazing. And the quality is great? The ones online look so darn shiny and new and I’m drawn toward more of a used leather.
October 19, 2013
Super great quality! The canvas is waxed, which is what I think makes it seem shiny in photos, buts it’s not shiny at all in real life. And they wear really well, so the brand new look doesn’t last long.

Love the honesty of this post. Really inspiring. I think #4 is really interesting because I sometimes hold a gruge against my 9-5 because it’s not allowing me to be creative (just a nerdy psychologist). It’s interesting to see the other side of the picture. Helps me live with a bit more ease – no one’s got it 100% sussed, right?
October 16, 2013
Exactly! It is good to remember that each situation has its ups and downs!!
October 16, 2013
Posts like these are my favorite. Honesty is the best.
I’m trying to figure out my sleep schedule at the moment. So far, I haven’t been successful. My problem is that I get a lot of shit done at night and not so much during the day but I don’t want to spent the whole day in bed so I get up early. Resulting in short nights and long, unproductive days.
October 16, 2013
AMEN sister. That’s exactly my issue. It’s a crazy thing to navigate…
October 16, 2013
I’ve been going to bed between 9:30 and 10 each night but still wake up exhausted as well. I am usually a night owl so I am guessing that’s the reason. Other than that, I am a nanny and the the mother of the kids I watch just had her 4th child and I’ll soon have to watch him along with a 2 year old. Truthfully, I am quite nervous and a bit scared about it. Newborns are so tiny and fragile.
October 16, 2013
Yes I really do think my body is just thrown off. So then in my mind I think “well I might as well go to bed late and wake up feeling the exact same.” Good luck with the baby. Remember – they’re more durable than they look!! (So I’m told ;)
October 17, 2013
I really need to stop monitoring who unfollows me on Twitter- I think it just isn’t a healthy thing to track. And I’m totally with you on #4. I don’t know how people like teachers do it all day every day!
October 18, 2013
Yeah I used to do it all the time and now I’ve stopped. Totally freeing and adds a lot of positivity to your life.
