Let’s Talk About You

Last weekend I “attended” Blog Brunch and (like always) walked away with so many new ideas. One idea that I loved was trying to learn MORE about your readers. It’s easy for me to just blog puke every day but who just wants that? Here’s the thing, I can’t keep track of every blog that interests me and there are so many times that I interact with people through my blog but never really get to learn more about them! I feel like I know you all by name/avatar but I want to know more!

So here’s my plea: TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF! Below I’ve listed 5 questions. Feel free to copy and paste the list into the comment section and answer them below! I hope to do this once a month.

  1. Where do you live? Be as generic or specific as you want.
  2. What do you do for a living? What are you doing when feel like you’re really living?
  3. You have to move out of your house in 5 minutes. What items do you grab?
  4. What’s one brand that has your loyalty?
  5. Share a link to your blog!

I love everything I get to do as my jobs, but feel most at ease while cooking and spending the day at home with my family. I am very loyal to Aveda hair products, Trader Joe’s, BumGeunis cloth diapers and Ergo Baby carriers. My blog is http://www.foodsmobstl.com.

  • Reply Sarah Rooftops August 7, 2012 at 9:47 AM

I live in Aberdeen, Scotland. I’m a communications professional working with small charities – I do web design, graphic design and copywriting. My plan is to start doing more of that outside of work, too – very, very soon.

I feel like I’m really living when I’m exploring new places and when I’m cackling with my friends over coffee.

If I had to leave my home in a rush (and the boyfriend and cats were safe) I’d grab my phone so I could call a friend for help and my grandmother’s old brooch. I figure my insurance will cover the rest.

    I’m loyal to… um… Amazon?

And finally:www.sarahrooftops.co.uk Nice to meet you!

    • Reply Allison August 7, 2012 at 10:51 AM

Hi Sarah! Scotland is one of my favorite places – I visited in 2007 and want to return soon. I’m also loyal to Amazon..it’s WAY too easy to become loyal with 1 click purchasing :)

  • Reply Cassie August 7, 2012 at 10:20 AM

Bummer. I don’t think my first batch of answers went through. :( But I LOVE this idea of getting to know your readers… by asking them questions! Would would’ve thought? Haha.

Where do you live? Be as generic or specific as you want.
I live about 30 minutes from Baltimore in the mix of suburbia and farmland. Not too developed, but not too rural, and VERY pretty. Living with my family in my 20s has its advantages.

What do you do for a living? What are you doing when feel like you’re really living?
I work two part-time jobs in publishing where I get to do the occasional writing, but not as much as I’d like. Not coincidentally, I feel most alive when writing.

You have to move out of your house in 5 minutes. What items do you grab?
My computer (it’s new), my makeup (I’m vain), and my camera.

What’s one brand that has your loyalty?
Crest toothpaste. It’s not a conscious decision I make. I’m sure I’d like other toothpastes too. But toothpaste is one purchase I just don’t have to agonize over. Random, I know.

I am a full-time mom to two very active school age kids and a freelance writer. Since my mother passed, I have decided to refocus my writing and my goal is write more creative fiction, poetry and personal essay.

    Writing. I love it…

Love your blog! (And also love following you on Twitter!)

    – I live in Wellington, New Zealand!

    – I am a graphic designer, currently employed full time at an agency, but working towards eventual full-time freelancing. (You are such a huge inspiration for me in this way right now!) I truly love my job and am so glad I have found my passion so early in life.

    – I would take my photo albums, hard drives, laptop (so I could work easily) and my running shoes (for sanity when I reach my new destination!)

    – A few brands have my partial loyalty, but I am such a fussy shopper! I will always buy lululemon when I can though, and brooks for running shoes. Apple is probably the biggest brand I am loyal to in my life, I guess ;) (viewing this on my iMac, tweeting from my iPhone, looking at TeuxDeux on my iPad while listening to my iPod…)

And I totally get you re: Apple loyalty. I need to try LuluLemon sometime…I work out a lot more and so I want to invest in a few pieces.

I live in THE Fort Wayne, Indiana. I DO NOT live on a farm.

I’m the office manager at a counseling center, and I do photography and custom paintings on the side. I feel truly alive when vacationing and/or spending time with people I love. I believe we were originally intended to live that way. :)

I’d grab my camera, iPod, Macbook, photo albums, and my great-grandmother’s rosary.

I’m not completely sure about brands. I’m really loyal to a lot of local places, and, typically, if a brand works for me and I get great customer service, I’ll continue using that brand and referring people to it.

    I blog over at http://breetsuts.wordpress.com/

    Miss you, Allie!

    • Reply Allison August 8, 2012 at 1:08 AM

Haha I love your disclaimer about living on a farm. Hilarious. I miss you too!!! We need to see each other when I’m back in Indiana again!

    1. I live in Arlington, VA – Right outside Washington, DC!
    2. I’m an IT Consultant, but I feel like I’m really living when I’m entertaining or playing outside
    3. Every photo album and picture I could find
    4. Cutco Knives – They are really the best!
    5. Someday :)

I really just like talking about myself haha, so thanks for this super fun list of questions!

01: For most of the year, upstate NY. Originally, eastern CT in the cutest little farm town. 02: Full time student, but really leaning toward photography + writing for the future.
03: Phone, camera, computer (the “basics”); after that any clothes I can get my hands on and a cute handmade card one of my friends made me.
    04. Apple – I’d seriously fork over almost any amount of $$ to them. Embarrassed.

HAHA I like talking about myself too. Don’t all bloggers? ;) And yes I don’t even bat an eye when I buy Apple products. $2,000? Sure!

    I live in Missouri!

I work at a college in the admissions department working with international and reactivating students while also doing all things advertising, branding, and design. I love empowering creative young people ages 13-18.

I’d grab my mac, hardrives, guitar, box of encouragement notes, pictures, and as many paintings as time would allow.

    Apple + J.Crew

I live in a ridiculously small town in Arkansas. There is one stop light, and everyone knows everyone. Luckily, a much larger city is only 20 minutes away so I never feel too far from civilization.

Right now: substitute teacher. Hopefully soon: the real deal.

My baby blanket, some of my favorite cookbooks and childhood photo albums. And my passport, just because I don’t think I could ever stand in line at the Post Office for that long again.

Target. There is no possible way I could live happily without that store, haha!

There’s something pretty great about those small towns though :) Haha loved your comment about the post office . I would DEFinitely grab some important legal documents.

Where do you live? Southern California, Orange County to be exact.

What do you do for a living? I’m a freelance consultant for publishing houses. It can be anything from ghost writing to editing to formatting digital books.

What are you doing when feel like you’re really living? I know the questions wasn’t literal, but honestly, moving. I’m sitting all day and when I’m walking, working out, it feels so freeing.

You have to move out of your house in 5 minutes. What items do you grab? Do pets count?? My hard drive, my Air, my iphone, and my wedding dress (my mom made it!)

What’s one brand that has your loyalty? Apple, sadly, hahaha.

    • Reply Allison August 8, 2012 at 1:12 PM

I agree with the “moving” thing. And Apple. Thanks for commenting and of course you can steal the idea! I heard about the idea from someone else!

  • Reply diana August 8, 2012 at 12:07 PM

Can I do this once on my blog and link back here? I love this idea for readers but I don’t want to overstep :3

  • Reply Joelle August 8, 2012 at 1:10 PM

Hi Allison! I love this idea! I might just steal it for my own blog, though I’d give you credit, of course ;)

    Anyway, here you go:

Where do you live? I live in Ventura, California. It’s halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, and I absolutely love it! I don’t want to move anywhere else.

What do you do for a living? What are you doing when feel like you’re really living? I am a technical writer for a software company during the day, but I’m hoping to follow your lead and freelance full time by the end of the year. I’m a wedding planner, blogger, writer, and calligrapher, and I hope to do it all, full time, next year.

You have to move out of your house in 5 minutes. What items do you grab? My dog and my purse. Yes, I’m that person…

What’s one brand that has your loyalty? Kate Spade :)

Share a link to your blog! Of course! Here you go: http://www.acharmingoccasionblog.com

I’m also going to emailing you soon about a new feature I’m hoping to get up on my blog!

    xoxo,
    Joelle

    1. Where do you live? Be as generic or specific as you want.
    Columbus – specifically Dublin

    2. What do you do for a living? What are you doing when feel like you’re really living?
I work for the State. I’m living when I’m playing working out or doing yoga, entertaining (or being entertained), and blogging

    3. You have to move out of your house in 5 minutes. What items do you grab?
Laptop and iphone for my pictures, purse, vibrams (I hate tennis shoes), and a pair of jeans (I have a hard time finding ones I like!)

    4. What’s one brand that has your loyalty?
I’m not loyal to one specific brand for everything, just certain ones for particular items (Vibrams, Gap, Crate and Barrel). I’d have to say Amazon for shopping though!

I’ve been at the Supreme Ct. for 7 years. Thanks for checking out my sites – we should meet up sometime. I get so busy with life that sometimes I forget to try to connect with people!

    I live in Charlotte, NC.
I juggle running after my 18-month-old with freelance graphic design/marketing consultation.
I feel like I am really living when I am photographing my daughter.
I would grab my wedding album, my daughter’s baby book, my external hard drive (which houses about every picture I have ever taken) and my journals from growing up.
Banana Republic and Target have my loyalty.
Here’s a link to one of my favorite diy posts on my blog: http://lettersfromlala.com/diy-party-hats/
Would you mind if I steal this idea to get to know my readers? Seriously…I would give you credit and a link back to your blog of course. What a great idea!

Steal away! Thanks for sharing your blog – love it!

    1. Where do you live? Be as generic or specific as you want.
Metro Detroit! I was born and raised here, moved to Grand Rapids for three years for university, and have just moved back.

    2. What do you do for a living? What are you doing when feel like you’re really living?
I just graduated college with a degree in English and a minor in history. I’m looking for a full-time job that encompasses one or both of those disciplines. I also dabble in graphic design and photography. While I can tell you more than you might want to know about Jane Austen, auxiliary verbs, and ancient Eurasia, what I absolutely love to do is write.

    3. You have to move out of your house in 5 minutes. What items do you grab?
My journals, my books, and my computer. I like that Val said she’d grab her jeans because it’s hard to find ones that fit right – I have the same problem so I’d grab my jeans too! haha.

    4. What’s one brand that has your loyalty?
Coach. I have one purse from there I bought almost four years ago and it still looks almost new. The quality is fantastic.
