30 Day Drawing Challenge

30 Day Drawing Challenge

Last week I saw this pin on Pinterest and I instantly loved the idea. Starting May 1st, I’ll be taking the challenge and posting a drawing per day here on my blog each afternoon. If you’d like to do it on your own, please please do! If you’d like to share your drawing on my blog, just email it to me by 12pm EST the day of. It doesn’t matter if you start now and submit them later or sketch them throughout May. It’s just a great way to encourage myself to sketch daily and maybe you need that encouragement too!

UPDATE: To view my 30 Day Challenge drawings, click here. I hosted a 30 Day Photo Challenge in September 2011 and a November Photo Challenge. Camera phone challenge will start in February 2012!

I am tempted to join you. I also need encouragement to sketch more as I have fallen victim to a “cut and paste” syndrome that I can’t shake. I have printed out the list as a statement of my intention.

I’m going to try to participate…. that’s a heady challenge! I have friends and family visiting that month, but won’t be around them ALL the time. So…. I may just do this! As it is, I’ve been painting every day… does that count? Painting vs. Drawing… it’s still art, right?

    April 24, 2011 at 9:03 AM
  • Reply Allison

Shari- I think a painting counts! I took fine art classes in college and we always discussed what defines a “painting” or a “drawing.” Is it material? Does the term encompass something different over time? I look forward to your drawings…no matter what they are!

I started this challenge a few months ago, but with an added rule.

Work for 15 minutes, and move on to the next day. After all 30 days are complete, work an additional 15 minutes.

Repeat until all the drawings are done to satisfaction. :)

You can see mine so far under the 30 DDC topic on my design site. I’ve finished 5 so far, but am taking a break until I get my new laptop as I kind of murdered this one by spilling coffee on it. :(

I’m sure it’s too late to post the first day, but just wanted to let you know that I took the challenge. Thanks Allison. That means a lot to me.

I will definitely be doing the Photo challenge when it happens. I actually just sold my old gear to pay for an upgrade (Which I just bought last week), but I have my AE-1 that I will be shooting with as well. It won’t be posted as quickly, but I will let people know.

My photography career started in the dark room and nothing will ever come close to producing photographs on film rather than digitally for me. It’s just where my heart is. However, all this babbling to say that I will be taking on the challenge with both my 5D and classic AE-1.

        Thanks again.

I was thinking of doing a drawing on each page of my school planner once I was done with those days. I hate flipping through my planner and seeing pages mostly blank with a few assignments and notes on it. This will be perfect but it will only be about 2 a week since there are two pages to a week.

I agree with robo. I appreciate this list as it is, but would give rise to the notion that ultimately creativity is found around and within you, not from a list of static things that someone else has already thought up. Go out and experience the world for what it is-a reality in which beauty can be discovered within almost anything. USE YOUR MIND, NOT SOMEONE ELSES.

    November 10, 2011 at 3:39 AM
    • Reply Allison

Agreed, Blake! This list is to get people into the habit of drawing daily. Then hopefully, they’ll continue to do it without a static list.

Thank you very much, Sir Jimmy of the Kennedy, for posting such ingenious, intriguing mildly complex challenges that will get the creative juices flowing. I have not set the time or had the motivation to continue my drawing, and I am most positive that this will surely get me back on the right track. This is exactly what I need, and I thank you once more for this. Oh, and I must say…
